Fix Registry Corruption

Registry corruption is, unfortunately, a common occurrence for many computer users. To fix registry corruption, it is helpful to have some computer knowhow or to follow a step-by-step process that walks you through it.

The truth of the matter is that many computer users have a corrupted registry, and they do not even know it. People can even corrupt their own registry without any intention of doing so.

What is a Windows Registry?

If you think of a huge reservoir or depository, that is what a registry is like. It is a place where massive amounts of information are stored.

And the more you use your PC, the more likely you are to have registry corruption. Having problems in your registry can hamper your computer’s performance and make you susceptible to additional errors.

How Did my Registry Become Corrupted?

To be quite honest, simply using your computer can lead to errors and possibly registry corruption. However, other ways include the process of deleting programs. Most people have done this in order to free up space on their computer.

However, after de-installing the program, you may have received an error message. This is probably due to the fact that the program that was deleted had files that were associated with other programs and now the other programs cannot run properly.

For Safety, Backup Your Registry

[Please note that these are backup instructions for Windows XP. Please follow the guidelines for your particular operating system.]

Manual steps to back up the registry in in Windows XP

  1. Click on Start, click Run and then type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and now click OK.

  2. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Create a restore point, and then click Next .

  3. On the Create a Restore Point page, type a name for the restore point and then click Create

  4. After the restore point has been created, click Close.

Note If System Restore is turned off, you will receive a message that asks whether you want to turn on System Restore now. Click Yes. Then, in the System Properties dialog box, click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box, click OK, and then repeat this step.

A Registry Cleaner Will Clear Your Corrupted Registry

A registry cleaner is a program that will remove redundant or unneeded files from your registry. It will fix files that have been corrupted or have gone missing. The nice thing about registry cleaners is that they are automatic.

With a single click of a mouse, you can have your registry backed up and system scrubbed clean in a matter of minutes. If attempting to fix a corrupted registry is a bit too daunting, then consider the option of a reputable registry cleaner to do the job for you.
