Optimize Windows Registry

By optimizing your Windows, you will speed up your computer and make it more stable. You will prevent crashes and errors. Let us start with ways to speed up your computer that you can do yourself.

How to Speed up Your Computer

We are going to start by removing programs from your start up processes. Basically when you get your computer, the manufacturer was paid to put extra programs on it and these programs automatically start when you start your computer.

There are also programs that when you install them, they put themselves in this list as well. Think of it as trying to do too much when you wake up in the morning. You eventually get it done, but it is slow going.

  1. Go to your Start menu

  2. In XP you will go to Run, in Vista you will go to the Search box at the bottom of your Start menu

  3. Type in msconfig

  4. Press enter

  5. Go to the Start Up tab on the top right of the window that came up

  6. You will see a list of programs and processes. If you take programs off this list, they will still be on your computer, they just won't load up as soon as you start up your computer. You want to go through this list and remove programs from it. Things like Google Desktop, Yahoo messenger, Skype, iTunes, etc. To remove these programs just click on the check marks next to them.

  7. Now that we have removed the check marks next to the programs, click the Apply button.

  8. Click the OK button

  9. Your computer now wants to restart to put these changes into effect, so let it restart and you will see how much faster your computer starts up.

Use of a Registry Cleaner to Optimize Your Windows

Another proven way to optimize your Windows is by using a registry cleaner. This is important if you want a fast, smooth-running computer. Through use, you get registry errors.

These can slow down your computer and cause errors, but manually attempting to fix registry errors is dangerous to your computer.

You can do more damage than fixing in regedit. One wrong edit and your computer is unusable.

A registry cleaner will go in and smooth things over, and repair the core programming code of your Windows operating system. In many ways, using a good registry cleaner is more effective than the steps I just walked you through.
